Reno-Tahoe Selected as New Site for 2006 Convention
March 17 - 19
NASSP is pleased to announce that the new site for the 2006 NASSP Convention will be Reno, NV.
The Reno-Tahoe area will provide a wonderful location for our Annual Convention. The excellent facilities, reasonable housing costs, and the beauty of this area will enhance the potential for a memorable experience for all.
In addition, for those who want to plan extended time in the area, the splendor of Lake Tahoe is only an hour away, and spring skiing is available at Mount Rose — only 25 minutes away from Reno.
The housing block that NASSP has secured is virtually self-contained in the downtown area of Reno, and rooms will range $99 - $139 per night. Properties including the Silver Legacy Resort and Circus Circus are attached via a convenient skywalk, creating Reno's largest restaurant, entertainment, and resort complex. Also, each of the hotels within the NASSP housing block offers complimentary round-trip transfers between the airport and the respective hotel. Overall, food and beverage expenses will be less expensive than in most other cities NASSP visits.
The devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina prompted the city of New Orleans, the original site of the NASSP Convention, to cancel all major conferences through March 2006. NASSP conducted an extensive review of sites with convention facilities and the housing to accommodate a convention of our size, and which could conform to the planned dates of March 17 - 19.
To show its appreciation for NASSP's selection of Reno as host of its 90th Anniversary celebration, the Reno-Sparks Convention Center will make a donation, based on the various revenues that they will realize, of no less than $50,000 to the Katrina Relief Fund.
We look forward to seeing you in Reno-Tahoe on Saint Patrick's Day!
