150. Succeeding in School Reform Forum, One Size Does Not Fit All: Urban Students and College Attainment
Category: Curriculum & Instructional Strategies
Time: Saturday, March 10, 3:00pm-4:30pm
Room: Rooms 26 - 27
The portrait of student preparedness, college attendance, and college completion presents considerable challenges to conventional wisdom. We assume that urban students are the least prepared and least likely to enter postsecondary education, let alone least likely to finish. This is a cartoon portrait that turns out to be very misleading. Common sense should tell us that something more complex is afoot. Indeed, when one looks at the nine Census divisions by urbanicity of origin and family income of traditional age students, some surprising (but really unsurprising) educational histories emerge.
