245. Issues and Answers: Bay Shore High School Awareness Weekend
Category: School Environment
Time: Sunday, March 11, 1:30pm-3:00pm
Room: Room 21
Bay Shore High School’s Awareness Weekend is a unique and innovative seminar that addresses a multitude of issues. In existence since 1989, the Awareness Weekend serves 130 students, grades 10–12. Bay Shore is a multicultural, multiethnic district that celebrates its diversity. The Awareness Weekend enables students and staff members to appreciate their differences and to understand just how similar people are. Breaking down walls and building bridges greatly increases the respect students and staff members have for each other. This “rippling effect” permeates throughout the campus and minimizes animosity between groups and maximizes the dignity and respect they have for themselves and others. This workshop will feature techniques and exercises that you can use as well as a hands-on approach to create your own Awareness Weekend.
