243. Discipline Without Anger
Category: School Environment
Time: Sunday, March 11, 1:30pm-3:00pm
Room: Rooms 13-15
In this session we will identify the destructive physical responses to anger and explore ways to disengage emotionally. Further, we will enumerate ways to recognize bodily changes that indicate anger is elevating and list ways to practice control. Finally, through group discussion, we will plan ways to discipline students without getting the students, their parents, or you angry. The presenters, a husband and wife vice-principal duo have worked with adolescents in urban and suburban settings. They have a combined total of 23 years of classroom experience and 37 years as administrators. The session will begin with a review of current literature on anger, its physical and behavioral responses, and anger’s destructive effects on the body and negative potential for resolution with the situation. The session will evolve into an interactive discussion with real scenarios to determine how participants can plan to avoid anger and successfully work for resolution of the problem. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of the impact of anger and a personal plan to avoid anger’s pitfalls.
