316. Critical Friends Groups for Principals
Category: Professional Development
Time: Monday, March 12, 9:30am-11:00am
Room: Rooms 13–15
Breaking Ranks calls for transformational leadership on the part of principals but how do we, in our frenetic lives, learn the skills and take the time to reflect on our own practice? How can work with colleagues allow us to learn from each other and to begin breeding a collaborative culture within our own schools? This workshop will draw from the practices used in successful principals groups in Connecticut and Rhode Island. As examples of the work that these principals do together, participants will engage in two protocols: the text-based seminar and the collaborative assessment for looking at student work. They will also hear a description of critical friends groups and will review the research that supports the creation of collaborative school cultures.
