203. Peers Assisting Learning With Students (PALS)

High School Level Session

Category: Curriculum & Instructional Strategies
Time: Sunday, March 3, 9:00am-10:30am
Room: Room 205

Hosted by the Tennessee Association of Secondary School Principals

Forty high school seniors are given credit for peer tutoring with elementary students. This tutoring has significantly increased Reading Readiness scores and Kindergarten Literacy scores. The PALS program allows the high school to lower the pupil-teacher ratio; the high school student to experience a positive, productive learning experience that could lead to a career in education; the elementary student the essential properties necessary to achieve desired goals; and elementary teachers an opportunity to work with small groups of children. This is a win-win program.
