131. Middle Level General Assembly: Two Years' Reading Growth for One Year of Instruction? It's Time to Play High-Speed Catch-Up in Reading
Category: Curriculum & Instructional Strategies
Time: Saturday, March 2, 2:30pm-5:00pm
Room: Room 313
The end of social promotion looms ahead legislatively, and middle school students are suddenly finding themselves caught in the crosshairs of high-stakes testing. Our instructional objective has become clear: Move every student to read on or about grade level as quickly as possible because students who read on or about grade level pass tests. Join us as we examine five strategies that will move below-level readers quickly toward grade-level reading and subsequent testing success. Two years of reading growth for one year of reading instruction, delivered over three years, will make an incredible difference in the lives of those students otherwise destined to be drop-out statistics.
