Middle schools are increasingly confronting the barrier of fixed-period classes. From their experience have emerged several specific strategies for modifying the schedule to provide greater flexibility, improve student learning, and allow for a broader range of instructional practices. Examine 15 schedules from urban, suburban, and rural schools that have successfully broken the time barrier.
