114. Growing Your Own Principals: One District's Answer to the Principal ShortageHosted by The Colorado Association of School Executives
Category: Ties to Higher Education
Time: Saturday, February 22, 11:00am-12:30pm
Room: 7-A
Attend this session and learn how one high school of 1600 students in Colorado is "growing their own" principals. One way to produce the high-quality leaders needed in education is to improve the training programs that prepare educational administrators. Thompson Valley High School has developed a partnership with two colleges that provide for an elaborate screening process to select high-level candidates the opportunity to participate in a principal internship program at the school site, rather than at the college facility. The school district pays the tuition for the candidates who qualify for this practical, hands-on learning opportunity. This program has developed many outstanding principals for the district since its inception.
