124. Civil School...Civil Society: Infusing Philanthropy Into the K-12 Curriculum
Category: Building Supportive Relationships
Time: Saturday, February 28, 1:00pm-2:30pm
Room: 224-A
Hosted by Indiana Association of School Principals
How do we engage children in civic life? What is missing from courses in government, history, economics, and psychology that leave young adults without an understanding of or passion for their society? The answer is a teacher-created, standards-based curriculum that utilizes service learning in teaching the value of philanthropic action and the nonprofit sector. Not an add-on, lessons integrate into the core academic curriculum.Empower teachers and students to make a difference in their community and their world. Participants will learn about resources and practical ideas to help students learn to give voluntary community service. This innovative program teaches students how they can become the visionary leaders, indeed “Architects of Change” of the future.
